Laboratory Technician II, Microbiology

They are seeking a Laboratory Technician II in Microbiology to collect samples, perform laboratory procedures, and document findings related to bacterial and fungal organisms causing disease.

Responsibilities
Collects and organizes samples for testing, performs laboratory procedures, document and communicate findings
Manipulation of various veterinary sample for the purpose of identification of bacterial of fungal organisms causing disease
Antibiotic Susceptibility testing utilizing Sensititre ARIS system
Utilization of validated laboratory techniques and processes to identify bacterial organisms leading to diagnosis including use of MALDI-TOF
Utilizes sensitive laboratory equipment during the analytical process leading to diagnosis such as gram staining
Is adept at use of microscope, manipulation of samples, streaking of plates and other recognized microbiology techniques
Maintains inventory and orders consumables/supplies for the section
Documents diagnostic findings in BVC’s Laboratory Information Management System
Recognizes, documents and provides input to correct substandard quality
Assists in scheduling work activities
Maintains customer confidentiality
Strictly adheres to the Quality Management System and principles of quality
Other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science degree related to the area of work to be performed
One year of laboratory experience
Familiar with collegiate level scientific processes
Alertness, memory for verbal and written directions and details, analytical ability, ability to logically plan and organize analytical processes
Ability to handle demanding situations, and work with a team
Excellent communication, interpersonal, supervisory, multi-tasking, and organizational skills
Problem solving ability to troubleshoot deficiencies, identify corrective actions, evaluate new processes and materials/equipment, implement plans, and develop preventive actions
Preferred
Strong emphasis in the related area of work to be performed is preferred
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology or related field
