Power Electronics Engineer
R2 Global is seeking a Power Electronics Engineer who will play a key role in the design, development, and optimization of advanced power conversion systems. The role involves leading technical efforts in topology design and hardware integration to deliver high-performance power solutions.
Responsibilities
Design and develop converter topologies, including multilevel circuits and selection of switching devices such as IGBTs, SiC MOSFETs, or GaN transistors
Optimize converter designs for efficiency, harmonic minimization, and robust high‑voltage operation through simulation and iterative refinement
Lead hardware prototyping, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting in lab and field environments
Conduct simulations and modeling using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, LTSpice, or PLECS
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate power electronics into larger systems, addressing protection, cooling, and scalability challenges
Perform root‑cause analysis on design issues and ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC, UL)
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to project planning and milestone tracking
Manage component obsolescence for existing hardware platforms
Stay current with emerging technologies such as wide‑bandgap semiconductors and advanced modulation techniques
Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations
Provide hands‑on breadboarding, testing, and troubleshooting support
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field
7+ years of professional experience in power electronics design, especially in multilevel converter topologies and high‑voltage systems
Expertise with power semiconductors including silicon IGBTs and wide‑bandgap devices
Proficiency with simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink or SPICE‑based software
Demonstrated ability to optimize high‑voltage converter performance and efficiency
Experience leading hardware integration and prototyping efforts
Strong understanding of EMI, thermal management, and power loss modeling
Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work collaboratively
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred
Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with focus on Power Electronics or Power Systems
10+ years of experience, including leadership roles in FACTS, HVDC, or renewable‑energy‑integrated systems
Familiarity with advanced control methods such as model predictive control or multilevel PWM strategies
Experience with embedded systems, real‑time controls, FPGA/DSP programming
Knowledge of regulatory compliance and certification for high‑power equipment
Experience in patent filings or technical publications related to power electronics
Proficiency with PCB layout and mechanical integration tools
