Programs Manager
The University of Utah's Huntsman Cancer Institute is seeking a skilled Programs Manager to join their Office of Community Outreach and Engagement. The role involves planning, implementing, and evaluating community outreach efforts aimed at improving health behaviors among American Indian residents across the Mountain West region.

Responsibilities
Build and maintain academic, clinical, and Native-serving community partnerships to enable access to and delivery of culturally appropriate, evidence-based cancer information and education, to American Indian communities
Contribute to the identification and creation of internal practices to enhance community engaged research, clinical, and outreach efforts of Huntsman Cancer Institute
Understand and translate Huntsman Cancer Institute's mission, vision, and goals into community outreach and engagement programming
Contribute to the development of the annual budget and justification, lead out on progress reports, and completion of all administrative documentation
Manage and provide support for professional development of direct reports
Work internally with administrative, clinical, research, and education staff to develop and implement evidence-based screening and prevention interventions including but not limited to, presentations, health events, webinars, social media, focus groups, study recruitment, etc
Conduct an initial assessment of the current state of American Indian outreach and partnerships, including existing relationships, prior activities, internal coordination processes, and gaps in engagement
Develop and implement a strategic, phased approach (informed by the assessment) to Tribal and Native-serving organization engagement that prioritizes depth, continuity, and mutual benefit, including partnerships with Tribal health systems and Native-serving regional organizations
Develop and convene an American Indian Community Advisory Board
Serve as a liaison between partners and internal Huntsman Cancer Institute programs to support coordination, reduce duplicative outreach, and strengthen alignment with community priorities
Identify community needs and opportunities for potential research collaboration with researchers, including grant support and development
Facilitate opportunities for community partners to inform program priorities, outreach strategies, and institutional planning related to American Indian health and cancer prevention
Work directly with Tribal health programs, Native-serving organizations, and regional coalitions to identify shared priorities and opportunities for collaboration
Support development of joint outreach, education, and prevention initiatives in partnership and alignment with Community Outreach and Engagement team
Facilitate coordination between community partners and relevant HCI programs and teams to improve access to prevention, screening, navigation, and support services
Support partner capacity through training, technical assistance, and connection to HCI resources, as appropriate
Maintain regular communication with active partners to ensure continuity, responsiveness, and follow-through on shared goals
Collaborate with internal clinical, research, and patient navigation teams to identify opportunities and strengthen American Indian culturally responsive practices and institutional policies that support spiritual and cultural needs within Huntsman Cancer Institute and Hospital
Serve as a resource for training and consultation related to culturally responsive care for American Indian patients and research participants, as appropriate
Collaborate with Native-serving health programs and Native-serving service organizations to support grounded community education, prevention, screening, and cancer control initiatives
Support adaptation and implementation of evidence-based interventions in partnership with communities to ensure cultural relevance and feasibility
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience)
Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience
Background knowledge of hiring department's area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors
Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department
Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required

Preferred
Bachelor's degree in a health-related field and 6-8 years of progressively more responsible management experience
Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes to effectively monitor and develop direct reports
Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required
Current valid Utah driver's license
Interest in understanding the needs of communities throughout Utah and the Mountain West and experience developing and maintaining community partnerships
Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods
Cultural humility and cultural competency skills appropriate to the population(s) served required
Experience and passion in American Indian health, health equity, public health, health disparities, health promotion, and community-engaged research
Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Certified in Public Health (CPH), or other relevant certification(s)
10 or more years' experience working in community settings and with diverse populations
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated vaccination requirements, or be approved for an exemption, prior to the first day of work
