Technical Safety Instructor [Hybrid]

The Technical Safety Instructor is responsible for leading the design, development, delivery, and compliance of all safety and technical training programs, ensuring adherence to safety regulations and fostering a culture of safety within the organization.

Responsibilities
Develops and implements new training products, processes, standards, and operational plans that will have a significant impact on the company's and broader industry's safety standards
Subject Matter Expert (SME) for technical training in renewable energy systems (wind, solar, and BESS) and international safety compliance
Leads and oversees other technical training specialists in the incorporation of safety-related tasks and practical demonstrations to ensure effective kinesthetic learning
Responsible for creating tiered training programs and ensuring safety compliance content is effectively disseminated to peer instructors and safety specialists across the organization
Delivers a wide range of classroom and hands-on safety training including but not limited to OSHA 10/30, fire safety, first aid, CPR, Advanced Tower Rescue, and other essential life-saving skills
Must be a currently certified U.S.-based OSHA Outreach Trainer qualified to teach OSHA 10/30 and who can read regulations and translate them into practical field training applications for technicians in both the U.S. and Canada
Evaluates options and determines the best course of action for high-impact and large-cost decisions related to safety training
Establishes formal internal and external networks to coordinate different approaches and determines the most effective communication vehicles to drive business decisions
Leads multi-year, multi-department safety programs and training curricula with advanced experience and seasoned judgment
Empowers and mentors a team of instructors and subject matter experts to drive the adoption of best-in-class safety practices

Qualification
Required
A bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, Engineering, or a related field is preferred. A Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation can substitute for a portion of the experience requirement
OSHA Outreach Trainer Certification: Must be an OSHA-authorized Outreach Trainer for either the General Industry or Construction industry, which requires completing the relevant trainer course and demonstrating a minimum of five years of safety-related experience
Renewable Energy Expertise: Must have 10+ years of direct experience instructing renewable energy technicians and be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the technical aspects of wind and solar energy systems. This includes a deep understanding of safety protocols and operational procedures for wind, solar, and battery energy storage systems
A minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior-level safety role, with a proven track record of developing and delivering safety training programs to a diverse workforce
In-depth working knowledge of the ISO 9001:2015 standard, particularly Clauses 7.2 and 7.3
Proven experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining a training matrix/competency map
5+ years of experience developing and delivering technical/safety training in a renewable or high-risk field
Proven experience managing training and competence requirements within an ISO 9001-certified QMS
Demonstrated ability to translate technical quality requirements and procedures into accessible, effective training content
Must achieve certification within 6 months of hire to possess certifications to instruct classroom-based, hands-on training for topics such as First Aid/CPR (e.g., American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent)
Certification in adult learning principles or instructional design (e.g., CTT+, CPLP)
ISO 9001 Internal or Lead Auditor certification
Must possess a valid current driver's license and successfully meet organizational requirements to operate motor vehicles
Able to work at heights, including climbing up and down ladders
Able to work in an electrical environment. This may have been achieved through formal training, previous work experience, or the ability to demonstrate electrical skills
Able to operate company vehicles (field trucks), both on-site as well as on public roads and highways. Must have a current driver's license
Must be willing and able to travel throughout North America, or internationally as required or directed
Preferred
Canadian Safety Certifications strongly preferred: Holds relevant Canadian safety certifications. certifications include: Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST), which are considered benchmarks in the Canadian occupational health and safety (OHS) profession
Provincial-specific 'Train the Trainer' certifications for specialized topics such as Fall Protection or Confined Space from a recognized body within provinces like Alberta, British Columbia, or Ontario
Experience with CNESST (Commission des normes, de l'équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail) standards and training in Québec is highly desirable
Bilingual strongly preferred (English – French)
Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), preferred Dayforce, Workday, and specialized safety compliance software
Fluent with common industrial operations management tools, techniques, and methods: SAP, SCADA, data management software, ERP or similar
