Research And Development Technician
Colorado Premium is a U.S.-based meat processing company known for producing high-quality protein products. The R&D Technician will develop and test new products, manage sensory evaluations, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities
Carrying out process support and development, new product development. Creation of formulas for cooked as well as raw products
Modifying existing products and developing new ones, focusing mainly on strategic ingredients. Optimization of specifications for current products using new ingredient technology. Optimization of flavor, texture and tenderness profiles for existing products in cooperation with CP R&D
Maintain sensory evaluations and shelf life exercises on all new strategic development projects, this would include having CP R&D and operations participate where applicable. Arranging and reviewing results of raw and cooked product audits. Collaboration with ingredient manufacturers and utilizing clean ingredient technology where applicable
Direct correspondence with sales and customers regarding development and project timelines. Responding to consumer queries when appropriate. Undertaking long-term projects with other departments, e.g. improving efficiencies, product process and overall product control. Researching current consumer markets and latest technologies to develop new product concepts
Checking and improving quality control procedures at CP, from the raw material stage through to the finished product, advising on key learnings along the development path. Selecting raw materials and other ingredients from suppliers meeting customers’ expectations while maintaining appropriate communication with core CP management. Preparing product costing based on raw materials, yield and manufacturing costs to ensure profitable products
Cooperating with CP members and policies in quality assurance, operations, procurement, sales, marketing and distribution, and regulatory compliance. Develop the ability to repeat processes to ensure consistency and safety. Working with engineering/production to develop solutions to production issues while maintaining food safety and the highest quality standards
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Meat or Poultry Science, Food Science or equivalent relevant experience
Experience in meat or poultry processing, food manufacturing or food product research and development, preferably in a protein-related industry, including evidence of strategic and tactical expertise and experience with quality/compliance standards
Verifiable experience in the development of value-added meat or poultry products with successful launch into food sector
Documented Food Safety training, and experience and/or formal training of different freezing, packaging and cooking technologies
Proficient in MS Office Suite, and knowledge of industry product reporting systems
Ability to solve a wide range of complex, multi-disciplinary problems that must consider short and intermediate term company-wide planning
Travel – Up to 25% to meet with business partners, customers, vendors, and suppliers
Experience conducting and/or participating in trained sensory panels along with maintaining shelf life documentation for beef or poultry products
Ability to be a self-starter, knowing how to utilize your internal and external resources to your benefit to get things done quickly, efficiently and multi task without compromising time on projects
Thermal process validation, ability to create cook cycles and understand formulations on how they impact cook process, yields and finished products
Red meat quality grades and specification, and poultry attributes and specifications
Characteristics and properties of ingredients used in meat and poultry products
Different packaging technologies and subsequent influence on product characteristics
