Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator
huMannity Medtec is a growing medical device R&D and manufacturing company, and they are seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator to ensure a safe and compliant workplace. This role involves overseeing safety programs, conducting inspections, and maintaining regulatory compliance with various safety agencies.

Responsibilities
Support development and implementation of EHS programs for R&D labs, pilot manufacturing, and production areas
Maintain compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA regulations, local fire, environmental, and hazardous materials requirements
Manage chemical inventory and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for labs, cleanrooms, and manufacturing floor
Maintain required records including OSHA 300 logs, training records, permits, safety plans, and equipment certifications
Assist with compliance for medical device–related processes that intersect with safety (e.g., sterilization equipment, biological materials, laser safety, compressed gases)
Ensure systems are in place for, training and drills have been conducted and the team is ready for emergencies, evacuations and other un-planned safety events
Assist with coordination and communication during unplanned emergencies: such as power outages, evacuations, etc
Conduct daily/weekly safety inspections of: Office spaces, R&D labs/Prototype/engineering spaces, Cleanrooms and controlled manufacturing areas, Chemical storage areas, Shipping/receiving and warehouse spaces
Monitor proper PPE usage and ensure availability across three building floors
Ensure equipment guarding, ergonomics, and safe work practices are consistently followed
Support facilities and engineering teams with safe installation and modifications of equipment
Serve as a first responder for workplace incidents, spills, alarms, and near-miss events
Conduct, document and/or support root cause investigations using established methods (5 Whys, fishbone, etc.)
Coordinate corrective actions and verify their completion
Maintain emergency response readiness: including evacuation maps, AEDs, drills, and fire-life safety coordination
Deliver safety orientation for all new employees and contractors
Conduct periodic training on lab safety, chemical handling, machine safety, ergonomics, fire extinguisher, AED use, CPR, first aid, emergency procedures, etc
Work with managers to reinforce safety expectations and encourage employee participation in safety programs
Publish safety alerts, reminders, and communications to keep safety visible and relevant
Support hazardous waste and universal waste programs (including pickup, labeling, satellite accumulation, manifests)
Assist with air quality, stormwater, wastewater, and hazardous materials reporting as required by S. California agencies
Monitor chemical usage and storage across floors to ensure regulatory compliance
Ensure proper handling and documentation for biological materials and specialty substances used in device development
Assist in internal audits and serve as the EHS point-of-contact during regulatory or customer audits
Partner with Quality/Regulatory groups to align safety practices with broader standards (ISO 13485 and similar systems)
Identify improvement opportunities and help implement solutions to minimize hazards and improve safety performance
Qualification
Required
Associate or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field; or equivalent hands-on experience
1–4 years of experience in EHS roles, ideally within medical device, biotech, pharma, or manufacturing environments
Familiarity with OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations
Experience working in labs, production floors, or controlled environments
Strong written and verbal communication—comfortable engaging with scientists, technicians, and operators
Proficient with Microsoft Office and safety-related documentation
Preferred
Experience in medical device manufacturing, engineering labs, or cleanrooms
Knowledge of hazardous waste regulations (RCRA) and California-specific requirements
Certifications such as OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, HAZWOPER, or Lab Safety
Understanding of ergonomics, machine guarding, and chemical safety
Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis
