AI / Machine Learning Engineer
The Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology, Inc. (CCAT) is an applied technology organization that supports the manufacturing industry. The AI / Machine Learning Engineer will design, develop, and deploy AI/ML solutions that enhance advanced manufacturing and automation initiatives.

Responsibilities
Develop, train, validate, and optimize machine learning and deep learning models for applications such as computer vision, predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, process optimization, and robotics
Build neural networks using frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, OpenCV, or scikit-learn
Collect, clean, label, and process data from sensors, robots, PLCs, cameras, scanners, and enterprise systems
Develop scalable data pipelines and automation for model training and inference
Integrate AI/ML models into robotic work cells, automation systems, and digital twin environments
Deploy models to edge devices such as NVIDIA Jetson or industrial PCs
Develop Python-based tools, APIs, and microservices to support AI workflows
Implement MLOps practices including version control, model tracking, testing, and monitoring
Support cloud-based AI workflows using platforms such as Azure ML or AWS Sagemaker
Conduct experiments, analyze results, and translate findings into production-ready solutions
Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations for internal teams and customers
Support grant-funded research projects and technical proposals
Adhere to all CCAT safety policies, procedures, and laboratory protocols to maintain a safe and compliant work environment
Perform all other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, AI/ML, or related field; or equivalent experience
Minimum 4 years of industrial experience or 4 years of graduate level research developing machine learning or deep learning industrial applications
Strong proficiency in Python and common ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn)
Experience with computer vision, image processing, or sensor data analysis
Ability to train, evaluate, and optimize ML models using standard workflows
Familiarity with data engineering, model deployment, or MLOps concepts
Knowledge of core math fundamentals including linear algebra, probability, and statistics
Strong communication and documentation skills
Must fulfill ITAR citizenship requirements
Preferred
Graduate degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, AI/ML, or related field; or equivalent experience
Experience with industrial automation, robotics, or manufacturing environments
Familiarity with Visual Components simulations, digital twins, or robotics OLP tools
Experience deploying AI models to edge devices such as NVIDIA Jetson
Knowledge of PLC connectivity (OPC UA, MQTT, REST APIs)
Experience with cloud ML platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)
Experience with industrial cameras, depth sensors, or 3D vision systems
Customer-facing engineering services experience
