Responsibilities
Advises, mentors, trains, and supports payroll staff as needed. May assist in department coordination and workflow management in the payroll manager's absence
Manages employee payroll master data, including the determination of appropriate classification and accounting of employee earnings as well as the determination of appropriate tax jurisdictions and sufficient documentation/authorization of deductions per applicable federal and state laws and collective bargaining agreements. Updates system data as needed
Obtains and enters accurate and timely HR information and payroll data into the payroll system and submits appropriate files to the bank promptly. Analyzes and inputs timecard data to the computerized payroll system. Maintains confidentiality of all Company, employee, and/or customer data and sensitive information
Ensures employee wages are paid in accordance with all applicable collective bargaining agreements. Updates collective bargaining agreements as applicable and accurately maintains current rates in the payroll software
Ensures compliance with and follows controls to achieve an error-free payroll and detects any discrepancies before they appear on an employee's check or impact payroll. Actively seeks assistance to resolve or report problems when necessary
Responds in an accurate and timely manner to all management and employee inquiries. Investigates complex problems and identifies, recommends, and implements continuous improvement initiatives and best practices to improve payroll processing and efficiencies and to enhance the employee experience. Leads initiatives for productivity and service-level improvements
Tracks and submits certified reports to ensure compliance for prevailing wage jobs. Audits and submits assigned monthly union reports and other reports as requested. May coordinate audit requests to follow up and address specific questions from auditors
Scans and archives or files payroll-related documents, following all company-approved policies and procedures for document handling and retention
Cultivates strong and cooperative working relationships with internal and external customers that reflect and support the Company's core values and meet or exceed the customer's expectations
Qualification
Required
Associate degree or equivalent experience in business administration, accounting, or a related field
Minimum 3-5 years of work experience in payroll processing
Experience using payroll software and systems, preferably eCMS software systems
Expertise in Microsoft Office software applications, specifically Excel
Experience working with confidential information and maintaining security of information as required
Demonstrates a high level of integrity and dependability
Superior analytical and mathematical skills
Strong independent problem-solving skills and high detail orientation
Strong team player, with a high level of professionalism and effective collaboration, organizational, prioritization, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
Strong coaching, training, and mentoring skills
Preferred
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification
Knowledge of the construction industry
Leadership training and experience managing people or reviewing the work of others
