Responsibilities

Assist in the design, prototyping, and testing of embedded systems focused on optical sensing technology
Contribute to system prototypes, integrating mechanical, electrical, and software components
Support hardware development for fiber optics-based systems, including PCB design and fabrication
Participate in experiments involving fiber optics, light-based sensors, and interferometry
Troubleshoot and optimize system performance in both optical and electrical systems
Document project work, including test plans, results, and technical reports
Present progress in design reviews to peers and leadership
Ensure project activities comply with company quality policies, regulatory standards, and design controls

Required

Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Optical Engineering, or a related field
Interest in interdisciplinary work that combines electrical, mechanical, and software skills in embedded systems development
Exposure to fiber optics, light-based sensors, interferometry, or optical systems a plus
Exposure to embedded systems, microcontrollers, or PCB design (e.g., Altium, Eagle)
Interest or exposure to optical and electrical testing equipment such as spectrometers, light sources, and power meters
Hands-on experience or interest in prototyping and building mechanical or electrical systems
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic coding skills (e.g., Python, C/C++)
Good verbal and written communication skills in English

Preferred

Experience in the medical device industry
Knowledge of optical design software (e.g., Zemax, Code V)
Familiarity with PCB design software (e.g., Altium, Eagle, KiCad)
Experience with embedded software design (e.g., STM32, Arduino, Python)
Familiarity with fabrication tools such as 3D printers or machining
Experience with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks)

Co-Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year.
