Director Data & AI Governance
The Doctors Company is the nation’s largest physician-owned medical malpractice insurer, and they are seeking a Director of Data & AI Governance to join their team. This role involves establishing and operationalizing the enterprise data governance framework, owning the enterprise data strategy, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements while enabling analytics and AI use cases.

Responsibilities
Establish and operationalize the enterprise data governance framework, including policies, standards, stewardship models, and decision rights
Embed governance controls into data platforms, pipelines, and delivery processes
Partner with business, IT, analytics, legal, and compliance teams to define clear accountability for data ownership and usage
Own the enterprise data strategy and multi-year roadmap aligned to business priorities, digital transformation, reporting modernization, and AI enablement
Guide prioritization of data domains, platforms, and capabilities, clearly articulating trade-offs between speed, cost, risk, and value
Establish measurable data quality standards and domain-based ownership models
Drive metadata, lineage, and data discovery capabilities to enable trusted analytics and reporting
Ensure governance supports regulatory, privacy, and security requirements while enabling analytics and AI use cases
Define and enforce principles for responsible data and AI usage
Drive adoption through executive influence, communication, and change management
Ensure governance models are understood, adopted, and sustained across teams
Clearly define and communicate team roles, expectations, and responsibilities. Provide coaching, guidance, and support to help employees achieve performance and development goals
Deliver consistent, constructive feedback to recognize achievements, address challenges, and reinforce desired behaviors
Conduct regular 1:1 meetings and ensure timely completion of performance review cycles, maintaining alignment and accountability
Hold staff accountable for compliance with organizational policies and standards
Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and accountability by encouraging team members to pursue new challenges and opportunities
Model and reinforce organizational values, actively recognizing and celebrating behaviors that exemplify them
Maintain full compliance with all organizational policies, procedures, and established standards (e.g. accurately recording time worked, Submitting PTO, mandatory corporate training)
Keep technical knowledge and skills current to effectively support department priorities
Complete all performance and development activities-including the performance review process -in a timely manner. Fulfill all required training and development obligations to maintain essential skills and credentials
Complete all mandatory compliance courses on time, meeting corporate training standards
Pursue additional learning opportunities that strengthen professional capabilities and contribute to team and organizational performance, with prior manager approval
Support enterprise and departmental objectives by taking on assigned projects and delegated tasks with accountability, attention to detail, and timely execution
Identify and implement process improvements that enhance business efficiency and strengthen organizational effectiveness
Proactively provide regular updates to leadership on project status, deliverables, and outcomes
Maintain flexibility and agility to take on additional responsibilities as organizational needs evolve
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field
10+ years of experience in enterprise data, analytics, or technology leadership roles
Demonstrated ownership of data governance programs, data strategy, or enterprise data platforms
Experience operating in regulated environments with legal, compliance, and risk stakeholders
Strong executive communication and stakeholder-influence skills
Preferred
Advanced degree (MS, MBA, or equivalent) preferred when combined with enterprise leadership experience
