New Talent is a long-established, market-leading organization in the lower Lowcountry of SC. They are seeking a hands-on Financial Controller who will own the day-to-day financial operations, lead a Staff Accountant, and ensure financial accuracy and compliance while driving process improvements.

Responsibilities

Personally execute and own core accounting functions
Be deeply involved in the month-end close, reconciliations, and reporting
Step in wherever needed to keep the books clean and accurate
Act as both player and coach โ€” leading by example while developing your direct report
Personally perform and oversee the monthly and year-end close
Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments
Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and intercompany activity
Maintain accurate multi-entity financial records
Ensure books are always clean, organized, and audit-ready
Own AP, AR, cash flow, and general ledger integrity
Prepare and deliver monthly financial statements and management reporting
Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
Conduct monthly analytical reviews and highlight performance drivers
Translate financial data into clear, actionable insight for ownership
Develop, document, and enforce internal controls, policies, and procedures
Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations
Oversee payroll, sales, and income tax compliance
Coordinate with external CPAs on tax filings, reviews, and audits
Identify inefficiencies and improve processes โ€” not just report on them
Lead and mentor one Staff Accountant
Provide hands-on training, review work, and elevate technical skill sets
Establish workflows, close calendars, and accountability standards
Build confidence and consistency through active coaching and support
Serve as a trusted financial partner to ownership and leadership
Provide timely, accurate answers because you know the numbers firsthand
Support special projects, ad-hoc reporting, and strategic initiatives
Strengthen visibility into performance across entities and business lines
Become the long-term financial backbone of the organization
Expand influence through process improvements and system enhancements
Take on broader leadership responsibility as the business evolves
Shape the future of the accounting function, not just maintain it
Month-end close is smooth, timely, and predictable
Financial statements are accurate, trusted, and decision-ready
Internal controls are stronger without slowing the business
The Staff Accountant is more capable, confident, and independent
Ownership has clear, consistent insight into company performance

Required

5โ€“15+ years of progressive accounting experience
Deep comfort with hands-on GL accounting, reconciliations, and close
Experience mentoring or developing junior accounting staff
Strong GAAP knowledge; multi-entity experience
High accountability, attention to detail, and a 'no task too small' mindset
Strong Excel skills and comfort working directly in accounting systems
Ability to communicate clearly with non-financial stakeholders

Preferred

Prior Controller or senior accounting leadership experience strongly preferred
