College Intern - Aviation Environmental Compliance Program

Port of Seattle is seeking a College Intern for their Aviation Environmental Compliance Program. The intern will support programs related to contaminated sites, stormwater, and hazardous materials handling to ensure compliance with environmental laws.

Responsibilities

Coordinate with construction projects for proper identification, handling, and disposal of contaminated materials
Review, summarize and update records of past investigations, cleanups, and spills in the Port’s historical records database
Conduct field visits to locate and inspect stormwater best management practices for condition and operation
Support staff with planning community planting events, invasive species removal efforts, and inspections of Port vegetated areas
Support staff with planning for environmental soil and groundwater investigations
Evaluate field and analytical laboratory data
Coordinate with Port Maintenance Crews for upkeep and repairs to existing soil caps, permeable pavement areas, and stormwater control structures
Support staff with site inspections of materials handling areas

Required

Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or a recent graduate (< 1 year ago) in a degree program such as Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or equivalent

You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements
You will be asked to complete Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Training prior to conducting work on projects with known environmental contamination
You will/must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
Employees must establish a residence in Washington State within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle
