Recreation Leader - Summer Programs
The City of Claremont is seeking enthusiastic individuals for the Recreation Leader position within the Recreation and Human Services Department for summer programs. The role involves supervising youth programs, assisting with special events, and providing clerical support at the community center, all while ensuring a safe and engaging environment for participants.

Responsibilities
Assist with a variety of assignments associated with Camp Claremont/Youth Programs, Wading Pools/Front Counter and Facility Reservations, and Special Events
Supervise, mentor, and keep participants safe and engaged while participating in the program
Answer phones and take messages, have direct contact with students and parents, handle cash, food prep, restocking and taking inventory, plan and implement daily activities, and oversee the volunteer program
Provide clerical and receptionist duties, set up and tear down for facility rentals, and assist with projects as assigned
Set up and break down events, prepare and distribute marketing materials, move tables and chairs, and set up audio-visual equipment and organize event supplies
Qualification
Required
Completion of the 12th grade as of June 2026, or equivalent, and experience working with the public
A valid California Class C driver's license and good driving record will be required
Must be able to earn a certification in CPR and First Aid during a City-provided training course
Availability to work a flexible schedule that may require nights, holidays, and weekend work assignments
Mandatory to work on July 4th to assist with the City's events
Successful completion of reference check, medical examination, Department of Justice check, and DMV review will be required before starting
Ability to operate computer, telephone, portable radio, security systems, audio and visual equipment, and other common office equipment
Ability to understand and respond to the public and staff requests for assistance on the computer, phone, and in person
Ability to administer basic first aid as directed
Ability to arrive to work on time
Ability to follow directions from a supervisor
Ability to plan and organize recreational programs for children
Ability to count money
Ability to sit, stand, stoop or bend for up to four hours at a time
Ability to lift up to 60 pounds
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
Ability to travel from one location to another, in the course of doing business
Preferred
Bi-lingual skills
Open to work summer shifts
Adaptability
Ability to multi-task with a sense of urgency
Previous experience working with young people, while also having the ability to speak with adults, parents, and dignitaries
Lifeguarding or aquatics experience
Experience working special events
Summer camp counselor or early childhood experience
