R&D Computer Science - Manufacturing Applications Software Engineer, Onsite

Responsibilities
Collaborate with others in the department and across the CIO organization to support the smart manufacturing IIOT/OT and PLM software implementations and support initiatives
Take an active role in the center's implementation of Solumina MES COTS software
Contribute to the maturation of the center's implementation of ThingWorx (e.g. dashboards, connected work cell, interfacing with Windchill PDM software, etc.); Emphasis will be on working with manufacturing process engineers to maximize value from the ThingWorx or equivalent platforms
Develop and/or research methods to perform data/system integration and interfaces between the organization's Oracle ERP, MES, and Smart Manufacturing COTS and custom applications
Participate in digital engineering/digital thread initiatives
Perform operational support duties that may include both computer and software needs, including a wide variety of different types of operational equipment
Research methods to use AI to enhance both individual and department capabilities
Assist in the governance and stewardship of center data, including operational and machine data (time series sensor data, image, and video)
Collaborate with cyber professionals to deliver secure solutions
Develop and cultivate trust-based relationships with the manufacturing engineering partners we support and, as well as, corporate CIO partners and organizations internal and external to Sandia
Qualification
Required
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance
Preferred
Graduate degree in Computer Science or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation)
Demonstrated software development skills and familiarity with modern software development practices and tools (e.g., Agile)
Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, and a passion to improve and expand technical skills
At least three years of current, hands-on experience developing and supporting software (custom and/or COTS) for medium to large organizations (including maintenance of these systems and interacting with the user community)
Proficient with scripting languages (e.g. Bash, JavaScript, PowerShell, etc.)
Active DOE Q clearance
Desire and demonstrated ability to develop and/or increase Manufacturing Software applications expertise (PLM/MES/ERP)
Experience supporting discrete and/or process manufacturing operations
Networking experience
Experience with Operational Technology
Experience with Cloud and hosted infrastructure development including authentication, authorization technologies, Kubernetes, and containerization technologies
Experience with IOT integration technologies such as OPC and MQTT
Experience with Windows/Linux/Unix operating systems
Organizational and policy knowledge of Sandia's corporate IT teams
Familiarity with Sandia's Cyber Security policies
Familiarity with, or certification in, IT or quality Frameworks such as ITIL or Lean Six Sigma
