Community Services Specialist (Senior Services)

Responsibilities

Plans and participates in recreation, community service and/or human service programs for adults with developmental disabilities
Assists with planning, coordinating, publicizing, promoting and scheduling all Party Pardners programs and events
Maintains contact with community groups and organizations
Prepares proposals and grant requests, tracks grant activities and expenses and prepares grant activity reports
Prepare program plans
Prepares a variety of reports and maintains records to include but not limited to preparing reports for City Council and Commissions
Overseas and work with hourly and volunteer staff
Provides information to the public on policies, procedures and programs
Seek compliance with safety and department policies
Make program related presentations to community groups and may attend a variety of meetings representing the department
Compiles and maintains a wide variety of records, reports and analysis regarding program activities
Assists in the preparation of Party Pardners fiscal year budget
Answer telephones, take messages, direct and refer information to and from customers and/or staff
Accept registration & monies; meet deadlines within department (e.g. newsletters, updates, timecards, evaluations, reports, memos, logs, requisitions, warrants, etc.)
Must be able to shift focus rapidly to address emergency department needs without losing track of ongoing or pre-empted duties and responsibilities
May pick up and deliver supplies
Work effectively and courteously with diverse internal and external customers to include difficult customers, the public and other staff members
Follow oral and written instructions
Performs other related work as required, within and outside the department
Ability to obtain the Tai Chi/Fit & Strong Instructor Certification
Instructs assigned classes (Tai Chi/Fit & Strong), programs and activities
Acts as a mandatory reporter
Instructs assigned classes, programs and activities
Plans, organizes and implements curriculum based upon overall program objectives and guidelines
Creates training programs and activities
Assist individual in developing and implementing modifications as indicated
Closely supervises and oversees the safety, comfort and progress of participants
Assists class participants in developing and achieving their individual goals
Develops rapport with participants and responds to questions, concerns, etc
Communicates with staff regarding facility availability, schedules, equipment and supply needs
Completes before and after class/session shift duties; sets up, takes down, cleans-up, before and after class as required
Maintains all required records and forms
Addresses program specific risk management and facility safety and cleanliness issues
Facilitates inclusion of special needs participants in program
Manages accidents and incidents according to procedures
Acts as a mandatory reporter; reports incidents of child abuse/neglect
Performs other duties as assigned

Required

Two years' work experience in the provision of recreation, child services, therapeutic recreation and/or human services
Experience working with older adults and persons with disabilities
Graduation from high school or equivalent
Valid Class “C” California Driver License, at time of hire with good driving record
Basic First Aid and CPR certification required within three months of employment
Knowledge and experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
Understand and be proficient at operating Microsoft Office, with strong skills in Excel
Understand and operate standard office equipment (computer and cash register)
Must be able to shift focus rapidly to address organizational needs without losing track of ongoing or pre-empted duties and responsibilities
Communicate effectively orally and in writing
Ability to work evenings and weekends when required
Excellent customer service skills with the ability to deal with difficult customers
Prompt and regular attendance
May drive a light truck or other equipment
Requires vision (which may be corrected) to read small print
Requires mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects
Requires mobility to stand, stoop, reach, and bend
Sit for long periods while typing and using a computer
Performs lifting, pushing and/or pulling, lifting up to 50 pounds for the purpose of lifting equipment
Requires the ability to move from place to place within the office and to reach for items above and below desk level
Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions
All City employees are required to perform assigned Emergency Service duties in the event of an emergency or disaster
Employee must complete required FEMA courses within six months of employment

Preferred

Two years of college course work from an accredited college or university preferred

Benefits

Sick time accrual, one hour for every 30 hours worked with a 48-hour accrual maximum.
The City does not participate in Social Security.
In lieu of social security, employee contributes 5% and City contributes 2.5% in a 457 deferred compensation plan.
