The State of Tennessee is seeking a Radio Communications Technician 3 to lead in the installation, maintenance, and repair of various communications equipment. The role involves ensuring reliable communications by performing technical work of considerable difficulty, including preventative maintenance and programming of radio systems.

Responsibilities
Repairs, installs, and maintains radio transmitting equipment and systems (including fixed, mobile, and portable devices, as well as ancillary equipment like lighting and sirens) using necessary test equipment and tools to ensure reliable communications
Performs preventative maintenance according to FCC guidelines and manufacturer's specifications to prevent system failure. Ensures compliance of State equipment with agency, state, and federal laws/guidelines, etc. through inspection and measurement
Programs system parameters, talk groups, and frequencies using computer software to maintain or set up radio transmitting equipment/systems (such as P25 - IP network, microwave point-to-point, and analog communications)
Listens to radio systems and assesses daily problems and determines appropriate actions. Determines work priorities based on the division's service priorities, considering system interruptions, emergency conditions, and safety and health, as organized by the supervisor
Programs radio transceivers, IP routers, switches, and security/safety equipment (e.g., emergency lighting, cameras, sirens) using specialized software and interface equipment
Acts as the agency's on-site representative to oversee and coordinate vendor/contractor work, ensuring it meets specifications. Attend's necessary technical and safety training required by agency
Coordinates the scheduling and logistics for the installation, removal, and repair of radio systems. Facilitates data sharing to ensure seamless interoperability with local government officials and other agencies
Visually monitors fault management terminal and inspects equipment, environmental and physical aspects of a property to detect potential problems. Utilizes test equipment to detect possible failure and discrepancies
Qualification
Required
Education equivalent to completion of one year of coursework at a vocational or technical school in communication equipment repair or other related field
Experience equivalent to four years of increasingly and skilled responsible full-time communications technical work
Possession of a Radiotelephone license issued by the Federal Communications Commission or certification as a two-way radio technician by an approved organization such as the Associated Public Safety Communications Officers (APOC) or the National Association of Business and Educational Radio (NABER)
Be willing to and able to qualify with, carry, and use assigned weapons
Be eligible to receive and maintain a security clearance in accordance with applicable agency regulations
Be at least eighteen (18) years of age
Have a good moral character, as determined by investigation
Complete a criminal history disclosure form in a manner approved by the appointing authority
Agree to release all records involving their criminal history to the appointing authority
Supply a fingerprint sample in a manner prescribed by the TBI for a fingerprint based criminal history records check
Not have been convicted or pleaded guilty to, or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felony charge or to any violation of federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor, or controlled substances, Tennessee Code Annotated 7-86-205
Not have been discharged under any other than honorable conditions from any branch of the United States armed forces
Pass a physical examination administered by a licensed physician that is consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act and that relates to the essential functions of the position
Pass a psychological evaluation administered by a licensed mental health professional that is consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act and that relates to the essential functions of the position
Upon appointment, successfully complete a prescribed course of instruction
