Responsibilities

Support the Laboratory's mission by serving as the subject matter expert for nuclear facility electrical engineering matters
Perform engineering studies including short circuit, device coordination, equipment sizing, exterior lighting, fault current, arc flash for both medium and low voltage equipment, demolition, installation, upgrades, and repairs
Qualify as a Cognizant System Engineer (CSE) on one or more Vital Safety Systems (VSS) that support LANL Nuclear Facilities
Work alongside junior and senior engineers to complete collaborative full-system design solutions through mentoring and leadership
Prepare and review technical reports and studies as part of establishing and maintaining Technical Baseline for new and existing facility structural systems
Define and collect metrics on the usage, process, safety, and other parameters of interest for the structure, system, or components
Define or establish design or analysis tasks and prepare design concepts that meet both the regulatory and performance requirements for systems and equipment
Develop design details, design or analysis calculations, load studies, specifications, and special inspections that incorporate the applicable design requirements
Evaluate and trend system health
Interface and coordinate with other engineering disciplines and the customer during the development of the design as the Electrical SME

Required

Advanced experience as an electrical engineer at a major commercial, industrial, or nuclear facility with a strong background in low and medium voltage systems
Advanced experience in the design, maintenance, and operation of low and medium voltage systems
Advanced experience with lightning protection design and the application of NFPA 780
Demonstrated experience in the use of SKM software
Demonstrated experience in application of codes and standards in a highly regulated work environment, to include but not limited to the IBC, IEBC, IEEE, NFPA 70, NFPA 70E
Demonstrated ability to perform analysis and calculations required to support engineered solutions
Ability to work independently with minimum guidance for assigned tasks and effectively communicate engineering solutions both verbally and written with management, customers, peers, and craft personnel
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks requiring varying resource needs and deadlines
Ability to obtain a Q clearance (which usually requires U.S. citizenship)
Expert ability to prepare and review technical reports and studies as part of establishing and maintaining Technical Baseline for new and existing facility structural systems

Expert knowledge to define or establish design or analysis tasks and prepare design concepts that meet both the regulatory and performance requirements for systems and equipment

Advanced experience evaluating and trending system health
Expert ability to interface and coordinate with other engineering disciplines and the customer during the development of the design as the Electrical SME
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 6 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 12 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above

Preferred

Demonstrated experience with controls related to equipment operation such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and relay control
Demonstrated experience as an electrical engineer at a DOE non-reactor nuclear facility with a strong background in low and medium voltage power systems
Demonstrated experience with the application of DOE Orders and Standards as related to facility systems
Demonstrated experience working within an ASME NQA-1 or similar quality program
Demonstrated experience supporting safety analyses and hazards evaluations
Demonstrated experience mentoring engineering interns and other engineers
Active Q clearance
