Controller ( CPA)
Oliver Fire Protection & Security is seeking a proactive Controller to lead the accounting function of their growing, project-based organization. This strategic role involves oversight of accounting, financial reporting, tax compliance, and internal controls, while also contributing to budgeting and financial planning.

Responsibilities
Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, job costing, revenue recognition, and monthly close
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
Ensure compliance with all bank covenants
Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
Ensure compliance with multi-entity and multi-state accounting requirements
Continuously improve the efficiency and accuracy of the close and reporting processes
Manage all federal, state, and local tax compliance, including income, franchise, and other required filings
Coordinate annual audits and work directly with external auditors and tax advisors
Ensure tax filings are accurate, timely, and well-documented
Oversee sales and use tax compliance, as applicable
Lead the annual budgeting process and coordinate inputs from department leaders
Prepare forecasts and financial models to support planning and operational decisions
Analyze budget-to-actual results and explain key drivers and variances
Support reviews of project profitability, margin analysis, labor utilization, and operational performance
Provide clear, practical financial insights to management and leadership
Serve as the primary owner of the company’s accounting and ERP systems
Use technology and automation to improve reporting, reconciliations, and data accuracy
Develop dashboards, KPIs, and management reports used by leaders to enhance business decisions
Identify opportunities to simplify processes and improve access to financial information
Support acquisition activity, including financial due diligence and deal analysis
Assist with post-acquisition integration of accounting processes, reporting, controls, and systems
Ensure acquired entities are timely and accurately incorporated into financial reporting and compliance
Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team
Maintain a hands-on approach while setting clear expectations and accountability
Partner with the CFO and operational leaders to support sound financial and business decisions
Qualification
Required
5 years in a management position leading a team
Active CPA license
Strong technical accounting background with thorough knowledge of GAAP
Public accounting experience with exposure to audit and tax
Experience managing multi-entity and multi-state accounting and tax requirements
Proven ability to produce accurate, timely financial statements
Solid financial analysis skills and demonstrated ability to explain results clearly
Effective working with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
Detail-oriented, organized, and accountable
Preferred
Experience in fire protection, construction, or specialty contracting
Viewpoint Spectrum ERP experience
ERP implementation or system optimization experience
Knowledge of state and local sales and use tax
Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, and FP&A activities
Exposure to mergers and acquisitions and post-acquisition integration
