Web Designer: Engineering Communications, Tickle College of Engineering - UTK
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville is seeking a Web Designer to support the mission of the Tickle College of Engineering. This role involves designing, delivering, and implementing digital designs to improve user experience and maintain the college's online presence.

Responsibilities
This position designs, develops, and deploys new digital products, including external websites and an internal college intranet using SharePoint and other platforms as needed
It creates original website designs aligned with the university’s design system, industry best practices, and established branding and accessibility standards
The role develops information architecture, navigation, and content wireframes to support logical content organization, strong user experiences, and desired KPIs
It meets with stakeholders to understand goals and requirements, translates needs into site concepts and frameworks, and applies professional judgment to analyze problems and implement solutions
The position maintains and updates content across existing websites and other electronic media and accesses and maintains communication-related databases as needed
It trains and supports internal clients and digital content specialists on content management systems and use of the web design system to ensure consistent digital brand standards across all college web properties
The role monitors, analyzes, and reports on website and user data to guide strategic planning, improve content performance, optimize user flows, and address technical SEO and accessibility priorities, and it supports paid marketing performance through tag management, tracking pixels, and retargeting
It liaises with OIT and the Office of Communications and Marketing to resolve technical issues and ensure the college’s digital portfolio remains secure and operating efficiently
The position completes professional development to keep skills current and performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in web/electronic media or related field (or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience)
At least two years of professional experience directly related to duties and responsibilities specified
Advanced knowledge of HTML and CSS as well as web standards, including digital accessibility standards
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Specifically, Photoshop and Illustrator)
Familiarity with wireframing and prototyping tools such as Figma and Adobe XD
Demonstrated experience using and interpreting Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager for reporting on metrics for content strategy
Knowledge of/prior application of digital management and digital marketing and content management and SEO best practices
Knowledge of UX/UI best practices
Proven written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
Ability to prioritize, manage, and deliver multiple projects on a rolling delivery schedule
Ability to present concepts and designs to clients (faculty and administrators) or team members in a clear, confident manner
Ability to work well independently and as a member of a collaborative team; act professionally; provide and be receptive to feedback and constructive criticism; be a self-motivated learner; teach, mentor, and share knowledge with others; and build and maintain good customer satisfaction for the Office of Engineering Communications
Preferred
Master's degree in web/electronic media or related field
Four years of professional experience directly related to duties and responsibilities specified
Programming skills in languages such as PHP, MySQL, JavaScript (server-side)
Demonstrated ability to maintain, patch, and upgrade CMS environments (WordPress preferred)
Familiarity with working within brand guidelines and working within and helping to develop digital content strategy for multiple audiences
Design background, ability to create graphics for use in digital environment
General knowledge of the principles of effective communication, marketing, and advertising
Working knowledge of UX research methodologies including contextual inquiry, interviewing, focus groups, surveys, and card sorting
