Responsibilities
Define target-state data architecture for Epic-to-analytics flows on AWS (data lake, curated zones, integration patterns, security)
Lead ingestion and transformation of Epic data (e.g., Clarity/Caboodle extracts, HL7/FHIR APIs), mapping to enterprise models and downstream analytics use cases
Design, build, and optimize secure, scalable pipelines using AWS-native services (e.g., S3, Glue, Lake Formation, Lambda, Step Functions, EMR, Redshift/Spectrum, Athena) or equivalent
Establish canonical models and data contracts; implement data quality, validation rules, and reconciliation processes; drive observability/lineage
Apply understanding of Health Rules (or similar health rules platforms) to translate business rules into data transformations, validations, and enrichment logic
Use Python for ETL/ELT orchestration, data utilities, testing frameworks, and performance tuning
Enforce HIPAA/PHI controls, role-based access, encryption, auditability, and retention in line with client governance
Partner with clinical, payer, and analytics stakeholders; lead backlog grooming, estimation, and delivery for a small team of data engineers/analysts
Monitor pipeline SLAs, optimize storage/compute spend, and implement best practices for reliability and scale
Maintain architecture diagrams, data dictionaries, runbooks; mentor team members and enable client self-sufficiency
Qualification
Required
7–12+ years in data engineering/architecture with at least 3+ years in healthcare data (provider or payer)
Hands-on integration experience with Epic data (e.g., Clarity/Caboodle, Bridges/Interconnect, HL7 v2/FHIR resources)
Proven delivery on AWS data lake patterns (raw/bronze → curated/silver → serving/gold) and lake governance
Practical Python proficiency for data transformation, orchestration, testing, and automation
Exposure to Health Rules platform (or equivalent healthcare rules engines), with ability to translate business rules into data logic
Strong grasp of data modeling, ELT/ETL patterns, data quality frameworks, and batch/streaming integrations
Solid understanding of HIPAA, security best practices, and handling of PHI
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and team leadership
Preferred
Experience with AWS services such as Glue, Lake Formation, EMR/Spark, Athena/Redshift, Lambda, Step Functions, Kinesis/MSK, API Gateway
Familiarity with FHIR API design, healthcare terminologies (ICD, CPT, LOINC, SNOMED), and data mapping to analytics models
Exposure to enterprise integration tools (e.g., MuleSoft, Boomi) and API mediation
Data governance/lineage tooling (e.g., Collibra, Alation, OpenLineage), and observability (e.g., CloudWatch, Datadog)
CI/CD for data (e.g., CodePipeline/GitHub Actions) and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform/CloudFormation)
Prior experience with payer systems, care management, or actuarial analytics is a plus
