The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is dedicated to enriching the environment and protecting public health for New Yorkers. They are seeking a Distribution Laboratory Intern to assist in various operational tasks, including preparing sampling equipment and participating in limnology surveys.

Responsibilities
Assist the Distribution Field Operations and Limnology program by preparing sampling equipment, sample bottles, field meters, and data recording devices
Participate in weekly limnology surveys at distribution reservoirs
Adhere to proper chain of custody procedures during sample transfer to the laboratory
Conduct data verification and inventory assessments
Analyze process control samples
Collaborate with field staff in collecting consumer complaint samples
Contribute to data management and recordkeeping
Develop a final presentation to display assignments involved with during the internship
Qualification
Required
As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year)
Student must currently be enrolled at a college/university at the undergraduate level coursework in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology or other related field of study
Student must have at least a 2.5GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
Strong writing skills
Effective interpersonal and communication skills
Proficiency with MS office
Knowledge of laboratory hazards and chemical compatibilities
Familiarity and/or experience with computers/software including spreadsheets and large data sets
Leadership skills including self motivation and ability to work well independently and with others, with minimal supervision and a willingness to learn
