2026-BWT-008-Environmental Health & Safety Graduate Intern

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is dedicated to enriching the environment and protecting public health for all New Yorkers. They are seeking a Graduate Intern to assist in providing safety and environmental compliance support, preparing communication documents, and conducting research on EHS regulations.
Environmental Services

Responsibilities

Assist Bureau EHS staff in providing safety and environmental compliance support to BWT operations
Assist in the preparation and distribution of BWT EHS communication documents and training materials
Assist Bureau EHS staff with coordinating EHS audit programs, assessments, investigations, report preparation, and metrics
Conduct research on various EHS regulations and best management practices and propose BWT EHS program improvements
Assist in expanding the BWT EHS Technical Document Library on the DEP BWT SharePoint site
Assist with routine and non-routine EHS Directorate workflows and tasks, including but not limited to reviewing and revising asbestos assessment records, updating facility maps, templating various EHS reports, and codifying data visualization
Develop a final presentation to display assignments they have been involved with while working as an intern at the DEP Interns Closing Ceremony

Required

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school

Preferred

Student must currently be enrolled at a college/university at the Graduate level in Environmental Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, Science or another science related field
Student must have at least a 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
Student must have at least a junior class standing
Strong writing skills
Effective interpersonal skills
Familiarity and/or experience with computers/software
Leadership skills
Self-motivation and ability to work well with minimal supervision
