The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is dedicated to enriching the environment and protecting public health for all New Yorkers. They are seeking a Water Quality Field Intern to participate in water quality monitoring and support functions in the Catskill Watershed, primarily involving sample collection, field analysis, and laboratory inventory tasks.

Responsibilities
Perform sample collection and field analysis
Perform inventory in the laboratory
General field support functions such as field sampling
Sample run preparation
Bottle preparation packing
Equipment and instrument maintenance
Data entry
Data management
Updating standard operating procedures
Develop a final presentation for the DEP Interns Closing Ceremony
Qualification
Required
As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year)
Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year
Preferred
Student must currently be enrolled at a college/university at the undergraduate level with coursework in chemistry, biology, or environmental science and ecology
Comfortable working from a small boat, at times
Student must have at least a 2.5GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
Familiarity and/or experience with MS Office, including spreadsheets and large data sets
Strong writing skills
Effective interpersonal and communication skills
Familiarity or experience with MS Office suite
Leadership skills including self motivation and ability to work well independently and with others, with minimal supervision and a willingness to learn
