ITD Linux Server Administrator

The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking an experienced ITD Linux Server Administrator to perform advanced Linux Server administration and systems engineering work. This role involves optimizing and managing TxDOT's enterprise Linux Server environment, providing technical direction for modernization, security alignment, and automation.
Government Administration

Responsibilities

Monitors changes in hardware and software and provides current information to end users
Analyzes new or existing procedures, information systems, or utility programs for efficiency and effectiveness
May train other employees
Monitors and collects information to determine the strength, weaknesses and performance issues of existing technology
Designs, builds, tests, implements, and maintains both publish and ad hoc reports in response to customer change requests
Coordinates, plans, and schedules the installation or training for new or revised systems and defines business process requirements
Oversees and/or prepares and defines the goals of the system and devises flow charts and diagrams describing logical operational steps of programs
Coordinates and/or tests and diagnoses systems to ensure critical requirements are met
Coordinates with users to identify system requirements, develop functional design specifications to meet requirements, and solve complex operational problems
Coordinates and/or researches, analyzes and tests business procedures, information systems, programs or systems software
Coordinates requests or completes user security changes or additions and facilitates security authorizations for new users
Oversees the training of staff prior to the implementation of technical and/or computer systems and offers advice and guidance during the implementation process
Provides technical assistance of software applications
Reviews and analyzes reports and performance indicators to locate code problems, and corrects errors by modifying or correcting code
Responds to incoming requests from business areas to design, build, maintain or repair reports and applications
Troubleshoots and analyzes technical problems associated with local applications
Writes and reviews technical specifications for programs and/or systems
Writes and updates computer and/or server application programs
Writes programs and/or queries for spreadsheet or database software to create reports and import/export data
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Computer/Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related discipline
5 years of experience in systems analysis, application systems support, or related work experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent)
Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle

Preferred

10 years of progressively responsible experience as a Linux Server Engineer or Architect
Linux OS architecture, lifecycle management, and major distribution ecosystems
Directory services design and operations
Enterprise certificate management
Infrastructure integration across network, storage, virtualization, cloud, and security platforms
Change management processes in large, regulated, or distributed enterprises
Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA)
Linux Foundation Certified Engineer (LFCE) or SysAdmin (LFCS)
CompTIA Linux+ or equivalent vendor specific Linux certifications
