2026-BWSO-007-Engineering & Regulatory Review Drilling Excavation Intern
NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers. The intern will assist in reviewing and analyzing designs to ensure compliance with DEP standards and engineering practices related to critical water infrastructure.

Responsibilities
Assist for reviewing, analyzing the designs to ensure compliance with DEP standards and engineering practices
Introduce interns to the project review process in the BWSO Drilling and Excavation Section with respect to DEP critical water infrastructure
Accomplish this through in-house training, understanding the drilling rules and critical water infrastructure impact analysis guidelines, critical water infrastructure as-built records, and familiar with their alignments and locations
Evaluate and perform engineering work and assist supervisor/manager with the review of engineering proposals submitted by other agencies to determine the impact on the NYC critical water infrastructure and to ensure that proposed plans are in conformance with NYC Title 15 Chapter 57
Develop a final presentation to display assignments they have been involved with while working as an intern at the DEP Interns Closing Ceremony
Qualification
Required
As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year)
Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year
Preferred
Student must be currently enrolled at a college/university at the undergraduate level majoring in civil, mechanical, or environmental engineering
Student must have at least a 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
Student must have at least a junior class standing
Strong writing skills
Effective interpersonal skills
Familiarity and/or experience with computers/software
Leadership skills
Self-motivation and ability to work well with minimal supervision
Proficient in AutoCAD
