2026-BWS-013-Drinking Water Operations Engineering Intern, Bronx
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing high-quality drinking water and managing wastewater. The intern will assist the Engineering, Asset Management, and Operations teams with various projects, gaining exposure to real-life engineering problems and contributing to the mission of delivering a sustainable water supply.

Responsibilities
Assist the Engineering, Asset Management, and Operations teams with a variety of office and field-based projects
Help field verify equipment
Conduct computerized maintenance management (CMMS) work
Conduct inspections for operations
Prepare drawings and specifications
Upload data into a software program or spreadsheet
Assist engineers to manage contract work
Drawing and document organization
Develop a final presentation to display assignments involved with while working as an intern
Qualification
Required
As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year)
Student must currently be enrolled at a college/university at the undergraduate level majoring Civil or Mechanical Engineering
Student must have at least a 2.5GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
Knowledge of engineering drawings and concepts
Strong writing skills
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Familiarity and/or experience with computers/software including spreadsheets, databases, and Autodesk AutoCAD
Leadership skills including self motivation and ability to work well independently and with others, with minimal supervision and a willingness to learn
