The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is dedicated to enriching the environment and protecting public health for all New Yorkers. They are seeking a summer intern to assist in reviewing and analyzing best management practices related to hydrology and stormwater collection systems for the Bluebelt program.
Environmental Services

Responsibilities

Assist in reviewing and analyzing new best management practices to ensure compliance with DEP standards and engineering practices, regulations, guidelines, and specifications relevant to the design
Utilize engineering, construction, DEP, and other standards and practices related to hydrology, hydraulics, best management practices, and stormwater collection system design to analyze projects submitted to the Bluebelt unit
Engages in research of existing sewer records, investigation, or studies to determine the extent of storm sewer infrastructure within the Bluebelt project design area
Responds to requests for investigation (RFIs) on Bluebelts by organizing and retrieving ongoing and historical records
Manages the design of Bluebelts and coordinate the inclusion of the design into a capital project
Monitors Bluebelts in operation and under construction, ensuring the construction meets Bluebelt Standards
Develop a final presentation to display assignments they have been involved with while working as an intern at the DEP Interns Closing Ceremony

Required

As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year)
Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year

Preferred

Student must be currently enrolled at a college/university at the undergraduate level majoring in civil, or environmental engineering
Student must have at least a 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
Student must have at least a junior class standing
Strong writing skills
Effective interpersonal skills
Familiarity and/or experience with computers/software
Leadership skills
Self-motivation and ability to work well with minimal supervision
Proficient in AutoCAD
