Responsibilities

We are seeking an accomplished scientist who will make substantial contributions to the conception, execution and communication of antibody discovery strategies in a highly collaborative environment
Implement novel selection strategies and build industry-leading libraries for discovery and screening of therapeutic candidates
Identify and solve technical problems independently, conceive and implement innovative research ideas
Leverage expertise to develop and implement research to gain a detailed mechanistic understanding of the molecular pharmacology of therapeutic molecules
Utilize computational skills independently and in partnership with AI/ML and Digital Transformation teams to amplify in vitro technology work and build into AbbVie’s AI/ML infrastructure
Provide project updates, analyses and advice to cross-functional teams and senior management
Present original work internally across departments and at internal and external scientific conferences; may author or co-author peer-reviewed scientific papers or patents
Ensure consistency and quality of technical reports
Ability to engage internal and external scientific leaders in collaborative research
Serve as a biologics lead for cross-functional teams, and contribute scientific insights into multiple projects across various therapeutic areas; recognized and sought out as an expert in discovery and engineering of therapeutic molecules

Required

PhD, MS, or BS degree in Biochemistry, Biochemical engineering or related disciplines with typically 0-3 (PhD), 8+ (MS), or 10+ (BS) years of experience
Hands-on experience with in vitro antibody discovery display technologies (e.g., phage, yeast, mammalian)
Extensive experience and up-to-date knowledge in antibody engineering and optimization (e.g., humanization, Fc optimization) best practices
Antibody/ antibody fragment library design, construction
Strong molecular biology skills
Familiarity with sequence analysis tools (Geneious, PipeBio, GeneData)
Application of computational tools within in vitro workflows to advance efficiency
Experience with flow cytometry
Ability to explore and develop new approaches to further advance innovative in vitro discovery and screening technologies
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Team player with the ability to operate in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment with functional and therapeutic areas
Adaptability to rapid changes in project priorities and timelines
Keen ability to engage internal and external scientific leaders in collaborative research

Preferred

Recognized in the scientific community through a record of peer-reviewed publications and patents preferred
Highly developed leadership and communication skills
