Student: Mechanical Engineering Assistant
Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking an undergraduate student in mechanical or aerospace engineering to work with professional mechanical engineers and scientists. The role involves assisting in the design, analysis, fabrication, assembly, and testing of hardware programs as part of their Civil & Commercial Space Division.

Responsibilities
Assists with the design, analysis, fabrication, and assembly of prototype, engineering units, flight-like, and ground support equipment (GSE) hardware
Reports and presents work results
Assists with the testing of related hardware
Assists with creating drawings and travelers, parts tracking, and kitting
Creates test procedures and reports
Qualification
Required
Must be a Utah State University student pursuing a mechanical engineering or closely related degree
Must have at least one year of school remaining
Must be able to work 20 hours per week during semesters and up to 40 hours per week during summers
Must be able to work graveyard shifts and weekends when required by testing
Must have successfully completed an engineering CAD course with a B grade or better
Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision once trained
Ability to work closely in a team with students and professionals
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues
Ability to take ownership for tasks and take responsibility for outcomes
Ability to maintain accountability to a work schedule
Must be self-motivated, dependable, and detail oriented
Hands on experience with basic tools
Must be a U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., or other U.S. person
Preferred
Machine shop or fabrication experience
Experience and interest in drafting metallic parts and assemblies for fabrication
Long term interest in solid mechanics and precision structures
Long term interest in thermal (radiative and conductive) analysis
Long term interest in precision design and fabrication
