They are seeking an AI Engineering Intern to research and prototype machine learning approaches that transform unstructured natural language into quantitative signals, focusing on designing experiments and constructing training data.

Responsibilities
Investigate and prototype machine learning approaches, primarily using transformer-based architectures
Combine textual inputs with structured numerical context to model how beliefs or statements influence measurable outcomes
Design experiments, construct training data, and iterate on model architectures
Expected outcome is a working proof-of-concept model, a supporting dataset, and a written research paper suitable for publication
Qualification
Required
Bachelors Degree - Required
Strong ML & Deep Learning Foundations - Required
Solid understanding of modern deep learning architectures, especially transformer-based models – Required
Hands-on experience training neural networks using PyTorch or JAX - Required
Familiarity with embeddings, attention mechanisms, loss functions, and optimization techniques - Required
Experience modifying standard architectures, including custom heads and non-standard outputs - Required
High Degree of Autonomy
Proven ability to work independently
Comfortable making architectural and experimental decisions
Able to self-direct exploration and identify next steps
Proactive in seeking feedback rather than waiting for instructions
Ability to clearly document model architectures, dataset assumptions, and experimental results
Comfort writing technical summaries and research-style explanations
Interest in contributing to a publishable research paper
Preferred
Currently completing or recently completed a Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field – Preferred
Prior research experience such as a thesis, lab work, or independent research projects - Preferred
Natural Language Processing (NLP) Experience Beyond Simple Classification
Experience working with unstructured natural language inputs
Familiarity with semantic representations and embedding models
Understanding of how language models encode beliefs, uncertainty, and intent
Comfort handling hybrid inputs that combine text with numeric or contextual features
Understanding of probability distributions, uncertainty estimation, and confidence intervals
Experience modeling outputs as distributions rather than point estimates
Familiarity with Bayesian concepts or probabilistic machine learning
Ability to reason about priors, posteriors, and belief updates
Demonstrated experience creating training datasets rather than only consuming existing ones
Ability to reason about ground truth definition, noise, bias, and confounding variables
Comfort sourcing data from multiple sources, including public datasets and APIs
Experience designing datasets that reflect causal or belief-driven relationships
Ability to turn open-ended research problems into testable hypotheses
Experience reading and implementing ideas from academic papers
Comfort running experiments, analyzing results, and iterating independently
Strong intuition for identifying spurious results, data leakage, or artifacts
