Project Engineer
Archetype Companies delivers comprehensive architectural and structural engineering services, with expertise in forensic engineering and concrete restoration. They are seeking a Project Engineer to perform forensic investigations, conduct field inspections, and support construction defect cases while ensuring compliance with applicable standards.
Responsibilities
Perform forensic engineering investigations, including structural failures, moisture intrusion, enclosure leaks, concrete deterioration, and other performance issues
Conduct field inspections, condition assessments, and diagnostic evaluations of buildings, structures, and enclosure systems
Document findings through detailed field notes, photographs, defect mapping, and organized forensic evidence logs
Support 558 construction defect cases and expert witness work by preparing technical exhibits, analysis summaries, timelines, and engineering opinions
Complete engineering calculations and assist in designing concrete repair solutions, strengthening schemes, and rehabilitation details
Evaluate building enclosure systems (roofing, waterproofing, windows, cladding) and assist in developing repair recommendations or replacement strategies
Assist in preparing engineering reports, repair drawings, technical specifications, and scopes of work
Participate in construction-phase services including submittal reviews, RFI responses, contractor coordination, and progress observations
Conduct asset management assessments, including lifecycle evaluations, capital planning, deterioration forecasting, and reserve study support
Coordinate with senior engineers, clients, attorneys, property managers, and contractors to support project execution
Mentor interns and junior staff by reviewing work, providing technical feedback, and assisting with project-related training
Ensure work complies with applicable standards and guidelines, including ACI, ASTM, ICRI, IEBC, and relevant building codes
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Architectural, or Building Science Engineering
2–5 years of engineering experience in forensic, structural, enclosure, or repair-related work
EIT required
Strong technical writing skills—must be comfortable preparing reports and forensic documentation
Proficiency with structural analysis software, AutoCAD/Revit, and basic field-testing equipment
Comfortable with fieldwork including ladders, roofs, lifts, and confined areas, when necessary
Preferred
PE in progress or soon-to-be eligible preferred
Experience with concrete repair, façade systems, waterproofing, or forensic investigations is highly valued
