Responsibilities

Supervise day-to-day operations on utility construction projects, including site preparation, excavation, pipe installation, and infrastructure work
Ensure that all activities are executed according to project plans, safety standards, and applicable regulations
Coordinate and supervise all field crews, subcontractors, and vendors on-site, ensuring that they follow all safety protocols and company policies
Enforce strict adherence to safety regulations and OSHA standards, ensuring that all personnel work in a safe environment
Conduct daily safety meetings and toolbox talks to review safety hazards and provide guidance on risk mitigation
Perform regular safety inspections of the site, identifying and addressing potential hazards to prevent accidents
Report and investigate any safety incidents, ensuring that corrective actions are implemented
Maintain the highest standards of quality control, ensuring that all construction work meets client specifications and industry standards
Inspect work-in-progress to ensure it aligns with project designs, drawings, and plans
Review work to ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards, correcting any deficiencies as needed
Work closely with the Project Manager to develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring that tasks are completed on time
Coordinate and oversee the timely delivery of materials and equipment to the job site
Manage the flow of work, ensuring that all teams have the resources and direction needed to meet project deadlines
Oversee the allocation and management of resources, including labor, equipment, and materials
Ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and functioning, scheduling repairs and maintenance as needed
Monitor manpower levels, making adjustments to staffing as required to ensure project efficiency
Coordinate and communicate effectively with subcontractors and vendors to ensure that materials and services are delivered on time and meet project specifications
Supervise and assess subcontractor performance, ensuring that they meet company standards for safety, quality, and work ethic
Act as the primary point of contact between the field and the project management team, providing regular updates on project progress
Report project status, safety concerns, quality issues, and scheduling changes to senior management as needed
Ensure that accurate records of work performed, change orders, daily reports, and timesheets are kept
Address and resolve any on-site challenges that arise, including issues with personnel, materials, equipment, or unexpected project delays
Work closely with the Project Manager to implement solutions to any problems affecting the project’s success
Lead by example, promoting teamwork, productivity, and a positive work environment
Provide guidance and mentorship to field employees, fostering skill development and job satisfaction
Conduct performance reviews for field staff, providing feedback and identifying opportunities for growth

Required

High school diploma or GED required
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Superintendent or in a similar role within the utility construction industry
Experience managing large-scale utility infrastructure projects, including excavation, trenching, pipe laying, and other utilities-related work
Strong understanding of construction processes, equipment, and industry best practices
Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and manage field personnel
Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution abilities
Knowledge of OSHA regulations, construction safety standards, and quality control procedures
Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with team members, clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and construction management software (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend, etc.)
OSHA 30-hour certification (required)
Ability to work in various outdoor conditions, including exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, and construction site environments
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. of materials and equipment
Ability to walk, stand, or sit for long periods during project work hours

Preferred

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is highly valued
First Aid/CPR certification (preferred)
Relevant certifications in construction safety, management, or quality control are a plus
