Part-Time Data Extraction Programming

Responsibilities
Develop Python or Java code that extracts data from printed population registry books that have been digitized + OCR text recognized
Store data in a CSV file; the project already has defined possible data fields
Work independently with access to an experienced programmer for consultation when needed
Communicate work progress to supervisor with limited programming experience
Qualification
Required
Coding experience in Python and/or Java
Creative problem solving
Ability to scrutinize own work and catch errors
Experience annotating code
Ability to communicate work progress to supervisor with limited programming experience
Self-directed learning and resourcefulness
Commitment to working in a distraction-free environment
Ability to work independently with access to an experienced programmer for consultation when needed
Preferred
Some familiarity with Amish and Mennonites
