Electronics Technician

Responsibilities

Responsible for comprehensive technical support of highly complex electronic systems such as audio/visual - security controls and alarms - nurse call - fire alarm - medical gas controls and alarms - equipment controls - and patient wandering equipment and/or systems
Troubleshoots and corrects system malfunctions on complex microprocessor based systems that have vitally interrelated and sometimes dispersed subsystems
Engages in construction - installation - maintenance - repair - and modification of all types of electronic and communication equipment
Maintains and repairs and determines nature and extent of repairs required by checking equipment for malfunctions - requiring the tracing of wiring - broken or worn parts - leaks - feedback - and interference
This includes patient panels - bulk oxygen tanks - fume hoods - medical air compressors - vacuum pumps - exhaust systems - and Medical Gases monitoring systems
Serves as a technical advisor and consultant to engineers and medical personnel on proper operating of existing equipment - purchase of new instrumentation - planning of new systems - and modification of existing systems to meet special needs
Inspects and evaluates new systems upon receipt to determine that all government regulations - manufacturer specifications - and contract requirements are met
Performing other duties as assigned

Required

1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level in the Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) needed to successfully perform the duties of the position
Knowledge of the techniques and theories characteristic of electronics, such as knowledge of basic electricity and electronic theory, algebra, and elementary physics
Knowledge of electronic equipment design, development, evaluation, testing, installation, and maintenance
Knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, operations, design, characteristics, and functional use of a variety of types and models of electronic equipment and systems
Experience assisting in work situations including maintenance, developing maintenance standards and procedures, analyzing repair practices, and developing procedural instructions
Experience in planning and directing the installation of complex systems and associated facilities
Experience in designing and analyzing circuits, determining design feasibility, and evaluating equipment performance under varying environmental conditions
Experience in developing or evaluating new or modified electronic systems
Experience in troubleshooting and diagnosing faults in the operational configuration of electronic systems and equipment
Experience using schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas
Advanced knowledge, experience, and technical support of highly complex electronic systems including but not limited to audio/visual, door access controls, security controls and alarms, nurse call systems, fire alarm, medical gas controls and alarms, equipment controls, patient wandering equipment and systems, CCTV video surveillance systems, and hospital beds (electric)
Physical ability to perform duties that can be physically demanding involving walking, sitting, some standing, and long periods of intense concentration
Ability to lift objects between 10 and 40 pounds, and occasionally heavier objects

Preferred

Two (2) full years of graduate education or a master's degree that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position
Equivalent combinations of specialized experience and graduate education as described that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position
