Responsibilities

Provides regular small-group case based clinical supervision to social work staff, using a range of evidence-informed frameworks (e.g., CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, psychodynamic approaches) to support high-quality psychosocial care for oncology patients and families
Facilitates theme-based clinical discussions (e.g., serious illness communication, death and dying, grief and bereavement, family systems, substance use, sexual health, and other complex psychosocial topics) that deepen clinical insight and skill
Creates and maintains a supervision environment that promotes openness and non-judgmental dialogue and encourages reflection, learning, and the integration of diverse perspectives and experiences
Collaborates with Social Work leadership to design, refine, and implement supervision structures and clinical curricula that align with departmental and institutional goals, regulatory requirements, and best practices in oncology social work
Identifies themes and learning needs emerging from supervision groups and communicates them to leadership to inform training priorities, quality improvement efforts, and program development
Maintains appropriate documentation of supervision activities in accordance with departmental policies

Required

Master of Social Work required from an accredited school of social work
Minimum of 7 years of post-master's clinical social work experience in a healthcare setting, including experience in hospital and/or ambulatory medical environments and interdisciplinary team-based care
Demonstrated experience providing group clinical supervision and/or leading structured clinical case discussions
Experience working with patients and families facing serious illness, end-of-life issues, grief, and complex psychosocial needs
Experience working in and demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity efforts and a knowledge base of the needs and concerns of underserved and marginalized populations
Advanced clinical social work knowledge in serious illness, end-of-life care, grief and bereavement, and family systems
Demonstrated skill in providing group clinical supervision, including structuring sessions, facilitating case-based learning, and integrating multiple theoretical and practice frameworks (e.g., CBT, DBT, MI, psychodynamic, trauma-informed care)
Ability to explore clinical applications of theoretical models within social work practice in a healthcare setting
Ability to lead clinical discussions with openness, curiosity, using a non-judgmental perspective, and to model reflective practice and ethical decision-making
Strong ability to manage complex group dynamics, including balancing multiple voices, navigating conflict, and maintaining focus on clinical learning and patient-centered care
Demonstrated capacity to support the professional growth and development of clinicians at varying levels of experience
Knowledge of integrated behavioral health models and the intersection of mental health and complex/advanced disease, preferably in oncology or serious illness care
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with social work staff and social work leaders
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practice, with demonstrated experience working in multicultural and multi-ethnic environments
Strong organizational skills, including the ability to plan supervision schedules, track participation, and contribute to program evaluation and quality improvement activities
LICSW in MA (and state specific based on location)

Preferred

Pediatric and adult clinical experience is strongly preferred
Integrated behavioral health or oncology settings preferred
