They are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Casual Laboratory Technician to support students in Years 7–12, providing essential practical and technical support to Science Faculty activities.
Education
Responsibilities
Support Science Faculty activities by preparing materials, equipment, and experiments for Years 7–12 classes
Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment, including safe storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals
Advise and assist teaching staff with demonstrations, experiments, and technical instruction
Support senior students with individual investigation tasks, including International Baccalaureate Internal Assessment tasks
Maintain accurate records of laboratory resources, equipment, and purchases
Undertake routine repairs, maintenance, or sourcing of laboratory apparatus
Ensure compliance with safety procedures, risk management processes, and School policies
Promote a strong child-safe culture and follow mandatory reporting requirements
Qualification
Required
Diploma of Laboratory Technology, relevant science degree, or equivalent experience/skills
Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Employment category)
Current National Police Check (issued within the last 6 months)
Strong knowledge of laboratory safety, chemical handling, and work health and safety practices
Preferred
Experience operating a school or analytical laboratory
Broad understanding of general sciences including chemistry, biology, physics, geology, and electronics
Competence in inventory management and computer applications relevant to laboratory operations
Experience in the care and sustenance of living organisms
Demonstrated interpersonal and teamwork skills in a school environment
Ability to work independently, with initiative, and minimal supervision
Commitment to ongoing professional learning and participation in school initiatives
