Computer Scientist (Data Scientist)
The U.S. Coast Guard is seeking a senior Computer Scientist for the Insider Threat Division, which is responsible for detecting, deterring, and mitigating insider threats. The role involves developing advanced automation concepts and researching algorithms to enhance data processing and analysis.

Responsibilities
Development of advanced concepts of automation and information processing display, control, and transfer
Research in computational complexity and the analysis of algorithms to explore data structures that lead to highly efficient combinatorial algorithms
Investigation into the mathematical structure of deterministic context free languages
Research into and development of custom code-based systems and subsystems to automate validated, repeating user/customer-driven processes
Development of metric deriving algorithms
Research in restructuring human-analyst theory and associated applied techniques into structured, validated, repeatable, accurate computer processes
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus
Must be a U.S. Citizen or National
Must be registered or exempt from the Selective Service
A one-year probationary period may be required
This position requires a Sensitive Compartmental Information clearance
Drug/Alcohol Test Required
Selectee must provide a valid state driver's license and safe driving record
Time in Grade requirement must be met by the closing date of the vacancy
To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the federal sector
Specialized experience must include the following: Applying advanced data science techniques such as machine learning, statistical modeling, or artificial intelligence
Developing and deploying analytical models using programming languages
Translating complex data into actionable insights for operational or strategic decision-making
Leading or mentoring technical teams or serving as a subject matter expert
Implementing qualitative and quantitative methods for identifying large data sets
Recommending standard business practices regarding information technology capabilities that support the agency's mission
