Responsibilities
Establishes, promotes, and assures quality on all projects and work performed by department staff; assigns department personnel to project teams; signs-off on department fees for proposals and projects, monitors staffing needs to ensure projects are completed on schedule; follows up on department-related construction issues to resolve problems and concerns; and, supervises/develops engineers, senior engineers, designers, senior designers, and CAD personnel within the department
You'll manage department resources and serve as a mentor to staff
You'll also lead substation design on large/complex projects and perform quality reviews
You'll review/supervise calculations, drawings, specifications, and perform condition assessments and feasibility studies
You'll manage substation group utilization and effective multiplier
You'll assist in proposal preparation and marketing efforts, and attend client meetings
You'll coordinate and conduct professional training and development of staff, evaluate work performance, and conduct department meetings
You'll assist the substation department manager in recruitment of new employees, and in business development efforts
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's or master's in electrical engineering
15+ years of protection & control or power systems engineering experience
4+ years of supervisory or responsible-in-charge leadership
Professional Engineer (PE) license is required
Advanced expertise in P&C engineering for high-voltage substations
Ability to apply utility industry standards such as NESC, NEMA, IEEE, ANSI, and utility-specific P&C philosophies
Deep knowledge of substation protection schemes such as transformer, bus, line, breaker failure
Experience creating or overseeing relay settings, protection coordination studies, and fault analysis
Advanced knowledge of industry standard practices
Experience developing and reviewing one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, protection schematics, and control wiring diagrams
Proficient in Microsoft Office and system modeling using tools such as ASPEN, CAPE, SEL, or ETAP
Strong communicator and mentor with excellent team-building, technical leadership, and coordination skills
Excellent organization skills and ability to prioritize work for a team
Preferred
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
