Transportation Engineering Technician III (61032488)
The South Carolina Department of Transportation is responsible for maintaining the state's transportation infrastructure, and they are seeking a Transportation Engineering Technician III. This role involves overseeing asphalt testing procedures, assisting inspectors, and managing sample logs under the direction of the District Asphalt Manager.

Responsibilities
Travels to various asphalt plants throughout District 7 and neighboring Districts
Observes the contractor's HMA Level 1 certified technicians when performing acceptance test to ensure the contractor's testing adheres to all SC Test procedures outlined in the current SC-M-400 specifications
Selects split samples from previously completed tests, then provides the essential SiteManager/AASHTOWare Project information to the appropriate Resident Construction Engineer and delivers the samples to the Research and Materials Lab
Through coordination with the District Asphalt Manager and the asphalt contractors, reports to the contractor's testing lab to weigh roadway cores in accordance with SC-T-87
Assists District Asphalt Manager with managing asphalt tracking and sample logs
Assists SCDOT roadway inspectors as needed or necessary and/or performs duties as an asphalt roadway inspector as required
When directed by the District Asphalt Manager, obtains referee samples from the contractors and delivers them to the appropriate district testing lab
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
A high school diploma and two (2) years of progressively responsible engineering technician related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence
Attainment of a Technician Certification in accordance with the SCDOT Technician Certification Policy may substitute for six (6) months of directly related experience
A motor vehicle operator's license is required
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time
This position may require occasional travel
This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling
This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies
This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise
