WORK/LIFE SPECIALIST-DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY

Responsibilities
Assesses individual and family needs and provides continuing work/life services to eligible populations
Participates in implementing, maintaining, and providing installation work/life services that meet community needs
Conducts and implements marketing and public relations campaigns to ensure target populations are informed of services and activities
Ensures availability of technology-based resources to maximize customer access to a full spectrum of resources to meet life-cycle needs
Develops statements of requirements and identifies potential sources for acquisition of resources

The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle in an official capacity. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position
This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position
The actual work performed in this position has been reviewed and determined that it does not meet any of the exemption criteria defined in 5 CFR 551. This position has been designated as nonexempt
Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position
Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field
Applicants must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NH-01, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-04 or equivalent in other pay systems
Specialized experience is experience in social service delivery systems and personal financial management practices to guide clients in making informed decisions
Experience in conducting interviews to identify needs, develop plans, and determine appropriate referrals
Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with diverse individuals and program officials through tactful and clear communication, both written and oral
Knowledge of social services delivery systems as well as concepts, principles, theories, and practices relating to one or more of the social or behavioral science fields
Knowledge of personal financial management practices and techniques to provide clients with appropriate financial data and practical financial skills to enable them to make informed personal financial management decisions
Skill in conducting interviews to establish the nature and extent of concerns/issues, provide assistance in developing goals and plans, and determine appropriate referral services/options
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships using tact and diplomacy in interactions with individuals/families and with program representatives and officials
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
