Sr. Product Design Engineer, Data Center Engineering - Electrical Products and Services

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Product Design Engineer for their Electrical Products and Services team, which is responsible for the design and continuous innovation of products used within AWS's data centers. The role involves leading new product design, development, and qualification of critical electrical power distribution equipment, while collaborating with internal and external teams to ensure compliance and performance standards are met.

Responsibilities

Work with internal partner teams to solicit customer input and define design requirements for product design
Lead new product design, development and qualification of critical electrical power distribution equipment for AWS datacenters
Develop Capex and Opex spending budgets taking into account development costs with vendors, prototyping needs, testing and specialized tooling requirements
Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate electrical equipment and components, ensuring tier 2-3 supply chain resiliency
Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC and federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries through appropriate levels of testing
Validate design through prototype, pre-production and first-of-kind builds, conducting DFx and value engineering analysis through each step and updating design and documentation
Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical products
Ability to provide support for manufacturing activities for the new products on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations
Be a leader within the product development team as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center

Required

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
8+ years leading new product design, development, product certification and manufacturing support of Low Voltage (LV) distribution products with focus on switchgear, switchboards and panelboards

Preferred

Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities
Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
Experience performing complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions and presenting the justification to management in a high-level review
