Responsibilities
Provide advanced nursing care for patients undergoing a wide range of outpatient GI procedures (e.g., colonoscopies, EGDs, ERCPs). Administer moderate sedation/analgesia, monitor patient responses, and assist with complex therapeutic interventions
Function as a subject matter expert and resource for other staff. Anticipate procedural needs, troubleshoot equipment, and maintain the sterile field with a high degree of autonomy and critical thinking
Coordinate patient care from admission through discharge in a fast-paced outpatient setting. Perform pre-procedure assessments, intra-procedure monitoring, and post-procedure recovery, ensuring seamless transitions and adherence to safety protocols
Serve as a preceptor and mentor for newer nurses and students, modeling best practices in GI procedural care, sterile technique, and emergency response
Actively participate in and lead performance improvement initiatives, data collection, and protocol development to enhance patient outcomes and departmental efficiency
Qualification
Required
Current RN license (Georgia or Compact State)
Current BLS certification (required upon hire)
Minimum 5 years of direct patient care nursing experience
Substantial GI Lab, Endoscopy, or procedural nursing experience
Graduate of an accredited/approved school of nursing (Diploma or ADN) is required
Current RN License in the State of Georgia or a Multi-State Compact License
Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required upon hire
Minimum 5 years of direct patient care nursing experience is required
Extensive experience in a GI Lab, Endoscopy Suite, or other procedural area (e.g., Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology) is essential
Experience with conscious sedation is required
Expert clinical judgment, critical thinking, and ability to function independently
Superior knowledge of endoscopic procedures, equipment, and sterile technique
Excellent leadership, communication, and teamwork skills
Ability to respond decisively and composedly to emergencies
Preferred
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is strongly preferred
ACLS certification is highly preferred and often required in procedural settings
Certification in Gastroenterology Nursing (CGRN) is highly desirable
