Director, Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The Director, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is responsible for building and leading a high-performing AI team, executing AI strategies, and driving innovation across the enterprise that enhances business operations and improves customer experiences.

Responsibilities
Partner with business, technology, and control functions (e.g., Risk, Compliance, Operations, Sales) to identify and prioritize high‑value AI/ML use cases that drive measurable business outcomes
Establish structured intake, prioritization, and value‑assessment frameworks to ensure AI investments focus on feasibility, risk, and time‑to‑value
Own end‑to‑end execution of AI use cases, from problem definition and prototyping through production deployment, scaling, and continuous optimization
Lead cross‑functional teams to translate business problems into AI solutions, defining success metrics, KPIs, and value realization plans
Ensure production readiness, adoption, and governance of AI solutions, including performance monitoring, explainability, regulatory compliance, and ongoing optimization
Design and lead the enterprise AI foundation, including AI platforms, MLOps, experimentation environments, and scalable LLM integration patterns (e.g., RAG, fine‑tuning, prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks)
Establish secure, compliant, and scalable AI architecture that meets regulatory, privacy, explainability, and auditability requirements while supporting rapid innovation and growth
Define AI‑ready data architecture, including data models, metadata, lineage, and integration standards to ensure high‑quality, reusable data to support AI initiatives across the enterprise
Partner with Data Engineering, Cloud, Cybersecurity, and Governance teams to build reliable data pipelines, orchestration, monitoring, and observability capabilities that ensure performance, resilience, and availability
Continuously evolve the AI foundation by evaluating emerging technologies, tools, and architectural approaches to improve scalability, efficiency, and enterprise readiness
Lead the creation, development and growth of a new AI Practice Team
Define the team’s vision, operating model, and roadmap and scale the organization effectively as the practice matures and demonstrates business impact
Develop and maintain the enterprise-wide multi-year AI technology roadmap, ensuring alignment with business strategy, digital transformation goals and emerging AI trends
Drive continuous AI innovation by tracking emerging technologies, evaluating vendor/partner solutions, and fostering a culture of experimentation within the team
Define the AI Practice operating model, authority levels & clarifying collaboration model (handoffs) between AI teams, business lines and other IT functions
Develop and execute training and awareness program and communicate AI concepts and strategies to stakeholders, including executive leadership
Develop AI talent strategy, upskilling programs for non-AI teams to adopt AI solutions
Establish AI governance principles, risk management frameworks, and ethical guidelines tailored to financial services
Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and industry standards
Monitor and mitigate risks associated with AI technologies
Advise executives on AI strategy, risk and tradeoffs
Lead, mentor, and develop team members by providing direction, performance expectations and feedback, and support to ensure effective collaboration, professional growth, and achievement of organizational and personal goals
Qualification
Required
Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in broad based platform technology, data science / Machine Learning & enterprise transformation programs
Minimum 5 years' management experience
Experience with cloud platforms, data engineering and MLOps
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Technology/Information Management or closely related technical field
Proven ability to deliver AI initiatives in an enterprise environment, with a balance of strategic and hands-on execution
Proven record of accomplishment to influence and partner with the business and leaders to successfully drive large-scale organization initiatives
Ability to connect AI capabilities with business outcomes and long-term organizational goals
Strong understanding of AI platforms, tools and use cases; willingness to learn and configure solutions directly
Deep expertise in machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and computer vision
Strong leadership skills to effectively lead and support both assigned resources and colleagues from other internal departments or external stakeholders
Proven ability to work across levels and functions to build relationships with key stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to articulate vision and direction, communicate effectively, manage and measure performance and accountability
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
Excellent interpersonal, counseling, and negotiation skills
Comfortable navigating change and ambiguity in a fast-paced environment
Forward thinking with the ability to work well under pressure and organize/articulate complex information
Preferred
Experience in regulated industries such as finance preferred
Advanced degree in Computer science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence or a related field
Professional development in areas such as AI/ML platforms, cloud computing, enterprise platforms strongly preferred
