Responsibilities
Abstract and enter clinical, demographic, and injury‑related information into the trauma registry with accuracy and consistency
Coordinate timely submission of registry data to state and national databases in alignment with required standards
Utilize hospital EMR reports to identify trauma cases that meet registry inclusion criteria
Analyze and interpret data to identify patterns, performance improvement opportunities, and quality trends
Prepare clear, comprehensive reports for internal committees, quality reviews, and verification processes
Maintain the trauma registry database, including coordinating system updates and enhancements
Uphold strict confidentiality standards and ensure proper de‑identification of data for public or research use
Apply basic statistical techniques to summarize and present data effectively
Support special projects, research initiatives, and other tasks assigned by Trauma Program leadership
Validate all data prior to release to ensure completeness and accuracy
Qualification
Required
CSTR certification (or willingness to obtain within one year; must remain active)
CAISS certification (or willingness to obtain within one year; must remain active)
Completion of an approved Trauma Registry course within one year of hire
Trauma‑specific ICD‑10 training completed within the first 90 days
AIS course completion required
2–4 years of experience in trauma registry work or medical coding
Preferred
EMT, paramedic, or vocational nursing background (strongly preferred)
Experience with trauma registry platforms (e.g., Trauma One) a plus
Solid understanding of medical terminology, data management, registry standards, and confidentiality practices
Familiarity with ICD‑9‑CM, AIS, and ISS scoring systems
Strong analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills
Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams in a remote environment
