Metra Commuter Rail is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving the Northeastern Illinois area. The A.C. Electrician is responsible for performing all aspects of electrical work including installation and repair of HVAC systems, maintenance of electrical switchgear, and overseeing overhead/underground distribution systems.

Responsibilities
Performing all aspects of electrical work, including utility pole and/or steel structure aerial lineman work
Installing and repairing HVAC systems
Construction, maintenance, repairs, and wiring of medium voltage electrical switchgear
HVAC systems, electric snowmelter controls and equipment
A.C. overhead/underground distribution systems up to 12KV A.C
Processing paperwork and replenishing inventory and materials
Subject to an emergency after-hours call out and assignment to overtime
Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization
Qualification
Required
Must possess a bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, be a journeyman Electrician or possess a minimum four (4) years of equivalent experience
In addition to #1, able to climb ladders, structures, poles and work in aerial position from a line belt and bucket truck
Able to lift, carry, and move up to 150 lbs. with the assistance of another crew member
Possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) class “B” with an air brakes endorsement. (Candidates will have 14 days to acquire a CDL Permit and 60 days to acquire the CDL.)
Able to pass the Metra M.O.W. Rules within sixty (60) days of hire and pass the Metra Roadway Worker Rules within thirty (30) days of hire
Available to work a forty (40) hour week, be available on call 24-hours/day, 7 days/week, 365 days/year including weekends and holidays
Preferred
An EPA Universal Refrigeration Certification for HVAC is preferred
