Director of Programs (Children's Vision Health Programs)
The Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving and preserving sight. The Director of Programs is responsible for designing and executing solutions for program operations and managing the program team to make a meaningful difference in children's futures.
Responsibilities
Collaborates with CEO on organizational direction, goals and objectives
Facilitates collaboration within POB’s portfolio of programs and services
Explores and supports grant opportunities to support current programs and expand programs in alignment with organization’s strategic objectives
Works with leadership team to define POB approach and standards of practice
Ensures all aspects of programs are implemented flawlessly
Maintains executive-level managerial and supervisory responsibility for overall operation of Children’s Programs
Oversees interviewing, hiring, onboarding and training of program staff/volunteers
Cultivates an innovative, team-oriented, goal-oriented program atmosphere
Establishes performance indicators and develops team members to build talents and skills for growth
Ensures staffing structure, funding, and staff training support program outcomes
Maintains annual program budget
Actively participates in positive cross-program communications
Participates in continuing education courses and conferences as needed to drive continual improvement
Leads the collection of program data on services, target population and outcomes
Evaluates program activities, processes, and procedures and leads improvement as needed
Analyzes results from demographic and program surveys, refine monitoring tools and evaluation process to ensure alignment with goals and objectives
Creates and coordinates relations with key community stakeholders to improve awareness of vision issues and services available from POB and beyond
Maximizes benefits to children and people in need through program endeavors
Represents POB at meetings, events and conferences
Available occasional weekends and evenings
Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
US Citizen
MPH, Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 5 or more years Director-level experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Valid driver's license in the metro area (DC, MD, VA)
Must have reliable transportation
Significant program management experience. Must have attention to detail, ability to multi-task and maintain a leadership perspective
Demonstrated experience establishing program goals and objectives that support a strategic plan
Well-connected with relative community stakeholders
Excellent mathematical, statistical and evaluation skills. Demonstrated experience using both quantitative and qualitative program evaluation
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Able to motivate and foster a team-oriented environment
Proactive, flexible, and positive demeanor. Maintain professional appearance
Proficient in Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Salesforce (or similar fundraising/CRM database)
Preferred
Written and spoken skills in a language other than English are a plus
