Saw Assistant

Wakefield Thermal is seeking a Saw Assistant to support the saw operator in cutting extrusions and ensuring quality control. The role involves following safety guidelines, measuring parts, and maintaining cleanliness in the work area.

Responsibilities

Promotes a culture of safety and follows all local safety guidelines
Act as a helper and back-up operator to the saw operator in the following duties
Cut extrusions to their required length according to customer requirements and properly stack them onto age carts
Record accurate counts of material cut and see that all material is properly identified and dimensionally correct before it is transferred to the tempering department
It is the requirement of the Saw Assistant and Operator, with every age cart, to measure the length of the part as the first product is placed on the rack, in the middle of the rack and as the last part is placed on the age cart. Record dimensions on the Daily Saw Report (QC-50)
Monitors machine fluid level
Ensures quality of parts before forwarding them to the next operation
Reports any unsafe conditions to Supervisor/Management
Responsible for cleanliness of his/her own work area and the general housekeeping of the Company
Actively participate, in all established company health and safety training programs, and comply with all policies and procedures

High School Diploma, or General Education Degree (GED)
Frequent mental and visual attention where the flow is intermittent with intermittent checking
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms
Frequently required to stand and occasionally required to walk, sit, kneel, crouch, or crawl
Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
Able to work in a hot environment
Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to airborne particles and chemicals
Required to wear safety glasses, hearing protection and safety shoes
