Communications Coordinator

Trust for Public Land (TPL) is a national nonprofit dedicated to connecting everyone in America to the outdoors. The Communications Coordinator provides operational support to the national Communications team, coordinating media activities, thought leadership, and internal communications to enhance visibility and impact across TPL's initiatives.

Responsibilities

Prepare a weekly "Look Ahead" report, tracking organizational events, upcoming press and media opportunities, and priority policy milestones
Track and help coordinate speaking engagements, event sponsorships, and promotional activities for thought-leadership convenings and conferences, as well as press and key donor events where Communications plays a lead role
Coordinate communications activities supporting TPL’s billion-dollar philanthropic campaign, including tracking deliverables, participating in strategy meetings, and ensuring seamless execution across Communications functions
Serve as primary point of contact for news/database subscriptions and renewals
Support quarterly reporting by writing impact summaries, compiling data, creating PowerPoint sides, and tracking team KPIs
Provide general administrative support to Communications leadership as needed
Manage press inbox, routing inquiries to appropriate team members
Compile and distribute weekly media clips and news roundups to organizational leaders and for our employee-facing website
Prepare briefing documents, talking points, presentation slides, and other preparatory materials for press and speaking opportunities
Write press releases, reporter pitches, media advisories, fact sheets
Support media list development and reporter outreach using MuckRack
Compile photos and b-roll from TPL’s photo and video archive for media requests and presentations
Provide production support for quarterly All-Team Town Halls and other priority internal/external meetings, including PowerPoint deck creation, run of show coordination, and other logistics as needed
Draft internal communications updates for TPL’s employee-facing website

Required

2+ years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or related field
Exceptional organizational skills and proven ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Comprehensive understanding of AP style and grammar
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
Ability to work independently while maintaining strong communication with team members
Detail-oriented with commitment to accuracy and quality
Collaborative mindset and ability to support team members across different functions
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Preferred

Experience working in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations
Familiarity with media outreach management systems (Muckrack, Meltwater)
Basic graphic design skills or experience with Canva
Interest in environmental conservation, parks, and public lands
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or related field; OR equivalent professional experience
