Responsibilities

Interprets pay policies (for example, Retirement and FICA eligibility, vacation, leave of absence, workers compensation, union contracts, government regulations, withholding exemptions, et cetera), and ensures appropriate amounts / deductions are calculated and applied to the various accounts correctly
Compile reports for analysis, interpret data, and analyze results using statistical techniques
Audit On-cycle Payroll
Reconcile data from various sources
Metrics and reporting
Provides analysis of moderate payroll projects
Transact UC payroll: Approve second-level adjustments processed by departmental payroll transactions
Process absence management and leave accrual adjustments
Process exception, off cycle and overpayment transactions, obtain approval, monitor in payroll system until completed, and validate exception transactions
Business process development
Customer Service: Manage assigned cases in UCI EEC CRM system
Prepare/package in documents findings and solutions and present to UCI Campus departments, UCI partner offices, and UCPath Center
Resolve escalated cases requiring special handling
Provides background information to higher level Payroll Analysts for resolution
Provides ad hoc payroll consulting to departmental payroll processors and develops and delivers presentations to key stakeholders (HR, Dept Leaders, etc.) on payroll related actions and updates
Applies professional concepts in analyzing and reviewing payroll activity to identify errors
Complete payroll forensics, perform root cause analyses, determine correction procedure, and coordinate with departments and partner offices

Required

Ability to handle confidential material with discretion
Ability to deal tactfully and diplomatically with employees and supervisors on sensitive matters
Required Skills to extract, manipulate and interpret data from electronic databases and produce documents, forms, reports and spreadsheets
Organizational skills to achieve timely progress on multiple simultaneous complex projects, distribute effort appropriately among the projects, meet tight deadlines and maintain a high level of productivity and accuracy
Experience working in a high-volume customer service driven environment and communication skills to develop written procedures, memos, etc., and convey to a diverse audience
Working knowledge of payroll and accounting processes/systems, policies, procedures, basic conferencing tools and techniques, and Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
Experience in higher ED, UCPath, TRS or similar timekeeping system
Ability to work well with others and contribute to a team atmosphere
Experience with human resources process and issues including State and Federal labor laws
Ability to work outside regular business hours for urgent processing
Must comply with UC vaccine policy
Must comply with DMV pull
Ability to work in a hybrid work environment (remote and on-site)
