Responsibilities
End-to-End Machine Learning Lifecycle Management
Problem Formulation: Translating ambiguous business challenges into concrete mathematical problems and defining success metrics
Pipeline Orchestration: Designing automated pipelines for data collection, cleaning, and feature engineering using tools like Spark or native cloud services
Model Deployment & MLOps: Implementing best practices for model serving, versioning, and CI/CD for machine learning
Continuous Monitoring: Establishing frameworks to monitor for model drift, data skew, and system latency in production environments
Transitioning Research to Production A primary duty is overcoming the technical debt associated with ML systems by ensuring models are operationally viable. This involves:
Containerization: Using tools like Docker and Kubernetes to ensure models are portable and scalable
Performance Optimization: Balancing model complexity with operational requirements like latency (milliseconds) and throughput (Queries Per Second)
Statistical Validation: Ensuring that technical loss metrics (e.g., Log-Loss) correlate with business KPIs like revenue or user engagement
Mentorship and Leadership : As a technical lead, the individual drives the growth of the broader data science team
Technical Oversight: Providing rigorous code and architecture reviews to ensure adherence to standards (e.g., PEP 8)
Culture of Excellence: Guiding experimentation practices and evaluation standards to ensure all research findings are reproducible
Agile Management: Facilitating sprint planning and retrospectives to keep projects on track and aligned with goals
Strategic Communication : The Lead acts as the bridge between technical teams and executive leadership
Translation: Communicating complex findings (e.g., causal inference or embeddings) in clear, actionable terms for non-technical stakeholders
Stakeholder Management: Building confidence in data products across departments like Marketing, Finance, and Operations
Qualification
Required
6 to 10 years of applied data science or research-oriented ML
Expert-level Python or R, with deep knowledge of the data science ecosystem (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn)
Mastery of deep learning libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras
Advanced SQL and experience with big data technologies like Spark, Hadoop, or Kafka
Hands-on experience architecting ML solutions on major cloud platforms (e.g., SageMaker, Vertex AI, Azure ML or AI Flow)
Proficiency in Git, Docker, and building/maintaining REST APIs for model serving
Master's or relevant experience in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics
Preferred
Professional-level certifications from major providers (e.g., AWS Certified Machine Learning - Specialty, GCP Professional ML Engineer, or Azure Data Scientist Associate)
Demonstrated experience with Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) architectures
Contributions to open-source ML libraries or a record of publications in recognized venues (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML)
